We found these Mini Aluminum Kendama at a pop-up shop in Tokyo.  According to the seller these kendama are NOS (new old stock) from about 40 years ago during the first boom of modern kendama in Japan.  Several of the current big name makers in Japanese kendama started around this period.  These are small but playable collector’s items.  The additional weight of the metal makes them much easier to play than comparably sized wooden or plastic kendama.  They come in a plastic box with an instruction sheet in Japanese.  The string appears to be cotton twine dyed to match the kendama (in the case of the red and green versions).  Own a piece of kendama history.  There are only three (one of each color) so grab one of these before they’re gone.
